Alert Banner Code

As part of the University Alert Notification System, a web-activated emergency banner is required in all UConn websites per University web standards. In the event of an emergency, the banner will be automatically activated by authorized University officials, directing the community to the alert.uconn.edu site for more specific emergency instructions and information.

When the emergency is clear, the banner will be automatically removed.

The code for this emergency banner is already built into the University web template system. For those using template versions released in March 2007 or June 2010, which point to the global files on the central web server (Web 2 server), no additional code is required.

However, you will need to add a line of code to your homepage(s) if:

  • you are using a template created prior to March 2007;
  • you have the newer version of the template, but the global files reside on your website;
  • you are not using the University’s official template.

If your website(s) meets any of these conditions, you must copy the following javascript code and paste it into your homepage source code just before the head tag:

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="http://alert.uconn.edu/alert.js"></script>

If you have questions, please contact the Web Development Lab.

Please note that you will not see any change to the appearance of your page in web browsers until the emergency banner is tested or activated in an actual emergency. When activated, an emergency banner will appear as follows:
