Central Web Server

The UITS Central Web Server provides hosting for University web sites. Currently, only UConn Departmental web pages are supported. Faculty, staff, graduate students, and student organizations must use the Homepages Web Server . Please see the Contact page for whom to contact for an account.

Features provided to every web site by UITS's Central Web Server:

• 100 MB of storage
• SSL protection
• Authenticated WebDav access (using NetID)
• Secure Formmail Script
• Virtual Host aliases
• Nightly backups
• Apache (current version 1.3.27)
• PHP (currently version 4.1.2)
• MySQL Database (currently version 3.23.58)
• Web accessible site administration featuring:
  • Web Counters
  • Web traffic statistics
  • Password protected sub-directories using NetIDs

Features NOT provided by UITS's Central Web Server

• No Telnet, FTP, SSH or SFTP access for web site maintanance (use WebDav)
• No Oracle, MSQL or other database access (use MySQL)
• Neither Active Server Pages nor ASP.net (use PHP)
• No CGI scripts other than PHP (exceptions can be made, contact Web Development Lab for details)
