Dr. Jeanne d'Arc Mujawamariya

Dr. Jeanne d'Arc Mujawamariya is Rwanda’s Minister of Gender and Family Promotion. Prior to this appointment, she served as Rwanda’s Minister of Education; Minister of State in Charge of Higher Education; Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education in the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Scientific Research; Administration Secretary in Charge of Hydrocarbons, Department of Energy in the Infrastructure's Ministry, MININFRA (formerly MINITRAPE), Rwanda; and was Professor of Physical Chemistry in the Faculty of Education, Department of Biology & Chemistry at the National University of Rwanda.
   She has published several papers in reputed international journals (including Sensor and Actuators, Talanta, Analytical Chemistry, IEEE-Sensor) and authored a paper presented at the International Conference on Sensors, which took place in November, 2000 in Pune, India.
    She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Chemistry from the Russian Peoples' Friendship University, Moscow-Russia and her PhD in Physical-Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India. She is fluent in five languages (Kinyarwanda, French, Russian, English and Swahili) and is married with three children.
   The mission of the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion aims at promoting equality and equity for both men and women and ensure empowerment of women through the national development processes of Rwanda. The Ministry further aims at promoting the family, as a natural and cultural basis of the Rwandan society and provide a conducive environment for the overall development of the nation’s children according to internationally agreed standards and principles.
    The vision of the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion fulfills its role as a leader in facilitating the implementation of the National Gender Policy and Plan of Action to ensure effective gender mainstreaming and full participation of women in all activities related to the socio-economic development of the nation. The Rwandan family will be a harmonious and prosperous one, providing a sound foundation for the well-being of all its members. All children, without any discrimination, will receive full support and protection needed to enjoy their rights and to develop the maximum possible their capacities with the objective to provide contribution to family and community development in general.
