Earn a Bachelor's Degree in Urban & Community Studies

Naugatuck Valley Community College Informal Articulation Agreement
The Urban and Community Studies program is actively working with Naugatuck Valley Community College to formalize an articulation agreement. Students at Naugatuck Valley Community College who are interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree in Urban and Community Studies are encouraged to contact John Wick at Naugatuck Valley Community College (203) 575-8608 or Jwick@nvcc.commnet.edu.
As a Naugatuck Valley Community College student you may choose from three associate degrees at NVCC in preparation for a Bachelor's degree in Urban and Community Studies.
- Behavioral Science
- This degree can be a course of study for students choosing to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in one of the Behavioral Sciences (i.e. Sociology, Anthropology, or Psychology). The degree provides an excellent general education foundation in the arts and sciences and transitions very smoothly to a UConn degree in Urban and Community Studies.
- Liberal Arts and Science
- NVCC's suggested liberal arts and sciences sequences provide a broad foundation for students who eventually may major in the field of social sciences and/or humanities. The Urban and Community Studies program at UConn comfortably includes both these sets of disciplines for students interested in transferring and finishing a BA degree on the UConn/Waterbury Campus.
- Human Services
- This degree provides an interactive learning environment for the education of students interested in providing client-centered services. It provides the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for life-long learning and successful employment. It is an excellent preparation for a major in Urban and Community Studies at UConn.
Although other UConn Campuses may also be considered an option, we have specifically designed transfer from NVCC to the conveniently located UConn Waterbury campus. Once at UConn, the UCS major offers a variety of academic options. You may personalize your degree based on your interests and/or career aspirations.
