UCS Tri-Campus Community College Initiatives
Start at your Local Community College and Finish at UConn
UConn’s Urban and Community Studies (UCS) Tri-Campus Program is offering students from a number of community colleges the opportunity to achieve a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from a top ranked university. Complete your Associates Degree at your local community college and then transfer your credits to UConn, where you can study to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban and Community Studies.
The UCS Tri-Campus program currently has a formal arrangement with Capital Community College (CCC), called an Articulation Agreement, to work with CCC students who are interested in pursuing a BA in our major at UConn. The UCS program is also working with other community colleges such as Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) and Housatonic Community College (HCC) through an informal arrangement, to assist their students interested in entering our academic program. We hope to have a formal articulation agreement with these institutions in the near future.
The UCS program is an interdisciplinary major for students interested in social change who want a meaningful career in public and community services. The program will give students a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities of urban life by looking at communities through a variety of academic perspectives. This holistic approach provides students with the tools they need to take an active role in their communities and prepare them upon graduation for a variety of careers and/or graduate degrees.
Students will learn from faculty who are recognized internationally as leaders in their fields and enjoy the prestige of studying at a top ranked university. We are committed to building strong relationships with neighboring communities. Through community internship programs and service learning opportunities, you will gain valuable insight and experience into the issues facing contemporary communities.
As a graduate with a B.A. in Urban and Community Studies from UConn, you will have a solid foundation for employment in fields such as social work, community services, public administration, urban policy, human services, non-profit management, business administration, government, urban planning and community activism.
Your degree will also give you an excellent foundation for pursuing graduate work in fields such as social work, urban and regional planning, survey research, education, public administration, law, public health and urban policy.
Our Tri-Campus programs are located at our Greater Hartford, Torrington and Waterbury Campuses. Students will find our small campus atmosphere, and our convenient locations further enable them to balance college with family, work and community commitments.
