Hartford Vulnerability Index Surveying

Hands On Hartford has partnered with Journey Home to conduct the Vulnerability Index in Hartford the past two years and will be doing it again this year.  The Vulnerability Index is part of the nationwide One Hundred Thousand Homes Campaign.  There is a link to their website and their campaign launch video below.  This campaign’s mission is to house 100,000 of our homeless neighbors by July 2013.  The Vulnerability Index is a tool they use to accomplish that mission.

The VI is a volunteer conducted survey of people living in homeless shelters and on the street.  The surveys are used to identify the most medically vulnerable among the homeless population and make them a priority for immediate housing.  The data collected also serves as a strong advocacy tool.  We will be conducting the VI in Hartford from Tuesday, 4/24 – Thursday, 4/26.  Volunteers are needed to help with conducting the surveys both in shelters and outside and input data afterward.  Below are the dates and times for each volunteer activity.  Volunteers can choose to participate in one or as many activities as they would like.  All Street Outreach teams will be lead by an experienced outreach worker.

As a direct result of this campaign nearly fifty people have been housed in the Greater Hartford Area.  This schedule makes for a busy week, and we need some motivated, passionate volunteers to make it successful.
