What advice would you give to new facilitators? |

- Be honest and straightforward with students. Don’t be afraid to be brutally honest with them.
- It is critical to establish contact in the first 10 days – 2 weeks.
- Meet with students early. Schedule several appointments because some may be missed. Don’t give up.
- Stay on top of your students, but realize you can’t “fix them”… they need to want to help themselves too.
- Every student is different and requires different support, methods, etc…, but a lot can also remain constant. When in doubt, utilize the First Year Programs Office.
- Become familiar with University processes.
- Facilitators need to be student-oriented and persistent.
- Read your manual.
- Do not lose faith! If they do not get in touch with you, be assertive and call them.
- Be yourself!
- Go to the training and don’t be afraid to ask questions if you’re uncertain.
