What We’re Doing at Hartford Public High School

This project was initially conceived by an undergraduate tutor, Nina Condrin, who had identified a need within her alma mater’s curriculum for precisely the kind of individual attention and academic role models that she had discovered for herself within the Writing Center.  UConn Storrs and UConn Hartford have partnered in offering the UConn/Hartford Public Writing Room this year.

Twice a week tutors from the UConn Hartford Writing Center visit Hartford Public High School, meeting with students in the school Career Center.  Our work at the school centers around three activities: coordinating a student-run paper out of the HPHS Writing Room, assisting students with assignments and college essay requirements, and offering support and resources to teachers. 

The Writing Room is open Tuesday/Wednesday 2:00-4:00 in the Hartford Public Career Center.
