Admission Requirements

If you are or have been enrolled at an accredited postsecondary institution and have completed 12 or more credits following high school graduation, the University of Connecticut considers you a transfer student.

Admission to the University of Connecticut is academically competitive.  To be considered for admission, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You complete academic course work comparable to UConn's General Education Requirements.
  • Your cumulative grade point average in challenging academic course work is at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (NOTE: Certain programs with limited enrollment require a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for consideration).   Because of the increase in number of applications received and the overall quality of the applicant pool, the minimum grade point average is required for consideration but does not guarantee admission.
  • You are in good standing at, and eligible to return to, the last institution of higher education you attended.  Students who have been dismissed for any reason - academic, disciplinary, or otherwise - must complete satisfactorily one year of challenging, full-time academic course work at another institution before applying to UConn.
  • You comply with the application deadlines and procedures of the University of Connecticut Undergraduate Transfer Admissions Office.  Transfer applications received after stated deadlines may not be considered.

Students with less than two years of college are evaluated on the basis of high school and college work; i.e., high school average and class rank, SAT or ACT scores, quality of academic courses, and college performance to date.

The Undergraduate Transfer Admissions Office extends priority in admission to qualified students, including veterans, who have completed a two-year transfer program at any community college and earned the associate degree; and/or who are prepared to begin junior-level course work at UConn.

In general, courses that are comparable to those offered at UConn and completed at regionally accredited, degree-granting institutions are transferable with a grade of C (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) or better.  Admitted transfer students who accept our offer of admission and confirm their intention to enroll by the due date receive information about our special Transfer Orientation and Registration Program.  An official, course-by-course evaluation of transfer credit is provided for advising purposes prior to Orientation and Registration periods.
