Delaring a Major in Sociology
It is easy to declare a major in sociology. Just stop by the department office, room 115 Manchester Hall (the top bar has a link to a map of campus), and meet with Kathy Covey, program assistant. She is in her office Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 12:00 and from 1:00 to 4:00.You do not need to make an appointment, but if you want you can call 860-486-4423 to make sure that she will be in.
When you meet with Kathy, she will review the program requirements with you and assign you an academic advisor from the sociology faculty. If you want a particular faculty member as an advisor, you can request him or her at that time. You can also request a change of advisor at any time. After meeting with Kathy, you will want to schedule a meeting with your advisor to introduce yourself and to plan which courses you will take. To do this, you can go to your advisor's office hours, which are listed here, or call or send him or her an e- mail asking for an appointment.
