Biographical Statement:

Mary Fischer joined the University of Connecticut in the fall of 2004 after completing a post-doc at Princeton University.  Her research interests broadly defined concern processes of stratification, particularly by race and ethnicity.  Some of the topics she has studied include minorities in higher education, residential segregation, and immigration.  She is currently working on two major research projects.  The first examines looks at the social capital accumulation in choice schools using the Educational Longitudinal Survey (ELS).   The other project looks at the effects of expanded access to credit on minority neighborhood outcomes.   Professor Fischer has received support for her research from the AERA/NSF, the Russell Sage Foundation, and the University of Connecticut Research Foundation.
