CONNECTICUT SEA GRANT LAUNCHES A NEW WEB SITE FOR AQUACULTURE

June 25, 2007 – GROTON---Connecticut Sea Grant has launched a new web-based guide that will be a boon to Connecticut aquaculture producers, municipal shellfish and harbor management commissions, researchers, educators and students, or anyone who would simply like to learn more about aquaculture.  Navigating through the Online Resource Guide for Aquaculture in Connecticut reveals a compendium of practical information such as a calendar of relevant events, advice on starting an aquaculture business, production statistics, equipment and supply vendors, training courses, experts to contact, and more.  The site also features information on aquaculture careers and resource materials for teachers and students. The web guide was created by Tessa Getchis and Noreen Blaschik. Getchis is an aquaculture specialist with Connecticut Sea Grant (CTSG) and the University of Connecticut’s Cooperative Extension, and Blaschik is a research assistant in the UConn Department of Marine Sciences.  In her work, Getchis links academic researchers, resource managers and industry members, to ensure that stakeholders understand industry needs and that the latest information and technology is available to growers.
