The mission of the NIRSA Natural High is to encourage participants to achieve their peak performance mentally, physically, and socially by offering positive, healthy alternative programming within the supportive environment of recreational sports.
The NIRSA Natural High is designed to offer healthy and other alternatives to alcohol and drug use by incorporating fitness and wellness into your life-style. NIRSA Natural High will promote healthy lifestyles by providing alternatives to negative societal pressures, by teaching participants how to incorporate health and wellness information into their lives. This can be achieved through lectures, sport activities, and fitness/wellness programs.
The University of Connecticut's Department of Recreational Services is proud of it's commitment to educate our community about healthy lifestyles through the NIRSA Natural High Program. This unique, proactive approach to healthy lifestyle alternatives integrates the development of innovative awareness programs with recreational sports.

Women in the Weight Room
Wednesday, February 13th
6:30pm-8:30pm Greer Field House
Athletics Weight Room
Register by Monday, February 11th
There are many well-known benefits of weight
training for women's health. Increased muscle
strength and endurance, reduced body fat,
increased metabolism, and greater bone mineral
density. So why are there so few women in the
weight room? This program is focused for
women to help break through the barriers and
misconceptions of using weight equipment as a
part of their workout routine. Lifting weights
should not be painful or intimidating, and
certainly will not give you "big & bulky" muscles.
Let us dispel these myths once and for all and
make the weight room and equipment a fun and
exciting part of your workout. Highly trained and
professional fitness staff will guide you through
the ins and outs of weights and machines in this
two-hour session. Proper workout attire is
required to participate. Limit 30 participants.
