Rules for Intramural Sports

Co-Rec 4 on 4 Wallyball Tournament

The following rules were taken from the American Wallyball Association (AWA). These rules shall govern play during the tournament; the Assistant Director-Intramural Sports and Special Events having the authority to modify said rules at his discretion.

The Game Rules

  1. Scoring: All games will use rally scoring up to 25 points. No cap, win by two.
  2. Service order must be kept prior to serving.
  3. Blocking or attacking a serve is illegal.
  4. Procedure #3 is repeated at the start of the second half and any overtime period.
  5. Ball is out of bounds during play when while crossing the net it hits the ceiling, the opponent’s back wall or two walls consecutively.
  6. The ceiling on the team’s own side is in play only if the ball is touched by one of their own teammates before crossing the net.
  7. A ball can hit the back wall and over the net directly (when being played by your own side), but if two walls are touched, another teammate must touch it before going over the net.
  8. If a ball goes into the gallery on the first or second hit by the team it will be replayed.
  9. A double hit is only allowed on a block, or the return of a hard driven hit.
  10. Holding, pushing, scooping, lifting, or carrying the ball is not allowed, it must be a clean hit.
  11. No climbing or using the walls during play or players assisting each other to gain height at the net.
