Policies & Procedures
During busy times, if an activity is deemed to compromise the safety of other participants, a staff member has the authority to cease the activity that is posing the risk. It is the expectation that REQUEST TO HALT THE ACTIVITY WILL BE HONORED at once, and THAT the SRF staff's decision be respected as final without debate. Failure to do so could result in loss of privileges.
There is one entrance/exit to the Student Recreation Facility located on Hillside Road (closest to Gampel Pavilion). Once in the facility, your membership entitles you access to all areas within the confines of the Department of Recreational Services, including Brundage Pool, racquetball/wallyball courts, all fitness and weight areas, Guyer Gymnasium, and Hugh S. Greer Field House (during open recreation hours). As a member of the Student Recreation Facility you choose how you wish to work-out. You are required to carry your membership card at all times for entrance to the Student Recreation Facility.
If a student or SRF member forgets his/her ID card, he/she may gain access to the SRF by purchasing a $5 refundable pass. The $5 will be returned upon presentation of the refundable pass receipt and a valid UConn ID by the end of office hours within 7 business days. The $5 fee will be forfeited if not requested by the close of business on the 7th business day. Individuals must have the receipt and a valid UConn ID to receive their deposit back.
To reserve a court you may call (486-6146) or stop by the recreation equipment issue room. Reservations are taken only one day in advance, and are held for 5 minutes. You must sign up prior to the start of your game. The following policies are in effect in these areas of the Student Recreation Facility: no floor marking shoes, no food or gum, only water in plastic containers, for your health and safety all users are required to wear full T-shirts or full tank tops (no cropped tops) and gym shoes at all times, personal belongings are to be stored in locker rooms, eye wear is recommended, courts are for designated use only.
Locks, towels and equipment may be checked out with your UConn issued identification card. You are responsible for all equipment that you check out and must reimburse the Department of Recreational Services for any lost or damaged equipment prior to your next use of the facility. Lockers are on a first come, first serve basis and are for daily use only. Any personal locks or locks left overnight will be clipped. Equipment rented at the cage is the responsibility of the user. Equipment is issued in good working order, it should be returned as such. It is checked very carefully before it is rented out, and when it is returned. Users will be charged the replacement cost for damaged equipment.
All areas are used on a first come, first serve basis. To better serve membership of the Student Recreation Facility, please observe the 30 minute workout limit on all cardiovascular equipment. The following policies are in effect in these areas of the Student Recreation Facility: for your health and safety all users are required to wear full T-shirt and gym shoes at all times, no street clothes permitted, no food or chewing gum, only water in plastic containers, personal belongings must be stored in lockers or "cubbies" provided, wipe down machines after use, return all weight plates and dumbbells after use, do not drop weight plates or dumbbells, use of spotter is recommended, horseplay and offensive language will not be tolerated, please use collars in all free weight lifts, report any damaged or broken equipment to a Departmental representative, please know how to use the machines before attempting to operate. Please, only personal headsets are allowed in the building. your choice of music may not be appreciated by others. The Department of Recreational Services is here to aid you in an enjoyable workout experience.
Each facilty houses three basketball courts and three volleyball courts. Guyer Gymnasium also houses nine badminton courts. Both facilities are on a first come, first serve basis during open recreation hours (Monday - Friday 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday starting at noon, when not being used for Intramural Sports or by the Division of Athletics). Exceptions may be made by the Department of Recreational Services or the Building Manager given availablitiy or lack thereof an area. Please check with the main office for reservation policies.
The following policies are in effect in these areas of the Student Recreation Facility: no floor marking shoes, no hanging on rims, no food or gum, only water in plastic containers, no hitting or kicking balls against the walls, personal belongings are to be stored in locker rooms. The indoor track, located in the Field House, is three lanes 200 meters in length. The following is the runner's policy for this facility: runners must always run counter-clockwise. First lane for "speedy" runners, second lane for moderate runners, third for slower runners or walkers.
Monday through Friday: 6:00 am 11:45pm
The pool will be open during all hours of operation inside the Student Recreation Facility. Circle swimming is required during lap swim hours. Keep the lane marker on your right side to share the lane with other swimmers. Lanes one and two for fast swimmers, lanes three and four for moderate swimmers, and lanes five and six for slower swimmers. The following policies are in effect in this area of the Student Recreation Facility: a shower is required before entering the pool, no street shoes on the pool deck, bathing suits only (for females, appropriate swimwear is that which covers the breasts, buttocks, genitals and pubic region, for males, approprate swimwear is that which covers the buttocks, genitals and pubic region; specifically, street clothes, thongs, and see-through swimwear are prohibited), no diving in the shallow end, no swimming alone, lifeguard is required for all swimming, all personal belongings must be stored in the lockers provided.
The Brundage Pool will close 15 minutes before the SRF closes.
For the protection and privacy of all SRF users, photographing or videotaping of any individual without the approval from the Director and Individual is prohibited.
