Undergraduate Studies Frequently Asked Questions

Initial Requirements (Before the end of your third semester):

  • During your first three semesters, work toward fulfilling the course distribution requirements of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
  • Take General Psychology I (PSYC 1100) and General Psychology II (PSYC 1101 or 1103).
  • Take Elementary Concepts of Statistics (STAT 1100Q) or Introduction to Statistics I (STAT 1000Q).
  • Take a variety of introductory-level courses that may be prerequisites to 2000-level courses that you will need as "Related Courses" for the psychology major.

Declaration of Psychology Major

  • Students interested in the Psychology major should contact Greg Champion. Appointments can be made on AdvApp.
  • To declare Psychology as your major: You can declare Psychology as your major online at the CLAS Online Program Change. You may use this link if you are currently in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or if you are switching into the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
    • NOTE: If you submit for the Psychology major during pre-registration in any semester (mid-March until early- April; and mid-October until early- November), your submission should be approved by CLAS, but your major will not be officially changed until after pre-registration is over.
  • To declare Psychology as a second major: see Kelsey Keefe in BOUS 186D.

Six Possible Campuses

You can earn a four-year undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Connecticut at any one of five campuses: Storrs, Hartford, Stamford, Torrington, and Waterbury. Students taking psychology at the Avery Point campus must travel to one of the other campuses for some of their psychology courses.
