"Waiting for Their Close-Up: The Political Economy of Latina/o Labor in Hollywood"

Dr. Mari Castañeda is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and a faculty member in the Center for Public Policy and Administration and the Center for Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her lecture, "Waiting for Their Close-Up: The Political-Economy of Latina/o Labor in Hollywood" will address the contemporary employment landscape for Latinas and Latinos working in the US entertainment industry, particularly in television and film. Dr. Castañeda will also discuss the potential for media reform to help reshape the landscape for Latina/o cultural production in an era of global media.
