Institute Description

The Institute has two goals:

  1. To increase the numbers of social workers that seek careers in politics and further develop Political Social Work Practice as a social work specialization.
  2. To explore the ways all social workers can expand the political empowerment of clients through voter registration, mobilization, and education.

To accomplish these goals the Institute implements projects, conducts research and contributes to social work’s body of knowledge. The Institute holds an annual campaign school as well as other workshops and continuing education programs. The Institute maintains an active program of research in the areas of political social work and political empowerment of clients. The Institute staff includes University of Connecticut School of Social Work faculty, Doctoral students and Masters students.
