Program Mission |
To provide freshmen, transfer students, campus change students and new UConn freshmen and transfer parents with a comprehensive introduction to the University. This introduction is intended to assist them in making a transition toward a successful college experience. |
Expected Commitment |
Spring 3 credit training course (EDLT 3262), 2 Saturday workshops, a weekend off-campus retreat, and the summer orientation program. |

Required Skills |
Position requires the applicant to be 2nd semester or above by spring, have good communication skills (verbal and written), prior leadership experience, experience in co-curricular campus activities, must be enrolled as a full time student at UConn Storrs through May, minimum GPA of 2., experience on Storrs campus preferred, demonstrate skills in human relations and leadership, ability to work under pressure, experience being part of a team. |

Training |
Spring training course - There is a three-credit training course entitled: EDLR 3262 – “The Freshmen Student.” The course is mandatory for the job. It meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. In addition to the class there are two Saturday workshops, a weekend off-campus retreat and 10 days of final training immediately prior to the start of the orientation program. |

| Responsibilities |
Orientation leaders work with their fellow staff members to facilitate the orientation program by: leading discussion groups with incoming students; assist in the preparation of orientation activities and materials; explain academic opportunities and procedures; acquaint new students with campus services and building locations; aid in the development of class schedules; assist in the mechanics of the class registration process; discuss sensitive issues, and uphold and enforce all aspects of the University conduct code. |
