Program Mission
The METAS Program (Mentoring, Educating and Training for Academic Success) is designed to assist first-year and transfer students with their college transition by pairing them with a peer mentor who provides guidance and support throughout the mentee’s first year at UConn. Benefits to participation include learning about resources and opportunities at UConn, attending educational, cultural and social events sponsored by the Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center (PRLACC) as well as other departments throughout campus, and meeting other students who are going through the same experience.

Strong communication & social skills. 2.5 GPA or higher. Full-time student at Storrs campus.

All Majors Welcome
Training
Mentors will receive a 2-day training in August before the fall semester begins. Peer mentors are also required to take a 3-credit course in the fall.
 
     
  Basic Description  
 
   
Type of Peer Educator Motivated student interested in helping fellow students. Must be full-time students in Storrs campus.
Responsibilities Peer mentors are responsible for assisting Latino first-year and transfer students with their transition to life at UConn. Mentors act as role models in the areas of academic achievement and co-curricular involvement at UConn.
Type of Student Serviced First year and transfer Latino students at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.
