Farmland Preservation

Trying to protect the agricultural heritage of your town? The Farmland Preservation workshop goes over the special considerations that come into play when saving farmland is on the agenda. Emphasis is place on “creative development,” where landowners identify areas they would like or need to develop while prime farmland soils are protected for future use.

Learn About:

  • The economic, environmental and social impact of farmland on the community
  • Ways to inventory farmland
  • How to involve farmers in the planning process
  • How to prioritize agricultural sites
  • How to plan for farmland preservation and fold it into the local plan of conservation
  • Development
  • Various farmland preservation techniques.

The workshop is free of charge and about 1 hour long. We recommend scheduling 2 hours to allow for discussion and questions. Contact Jim Gibbons at jim.gibbons@uconn.edu or call (860) 345-4511 to set up a workshop.
