Required Information and Deadlines

The following information is normally required before an application can be considered:

  1. completed application form
  2. official transcripts of all previous college and/or university work
  3. scores on the Graduate Record Examination
  4. three letters of reference
  5. personal statement describing your interest in, and experience with, science

The Fall 2012 deadline for Doctoral candidates is DECEMBER 15, 2011. Strong applicants may be considered up to January 15, 2012. There is no admission for the spring semester in the doctoral program.

The Fall 2012 application deadline for Masters programs is MARCH 15, 2012, with no admission for the spring semester.

The Professional Science Masters in Applied Genomics and in Microbial Systems Analysis offer rolling admission throughout the year.

Applications received after these dates will not be considered.

Financial Support

Students may be supported by Teaching Assistantships or Research Assistantships . In addition, a special fellowship, The Heinz Herrmann Graduate Fellowship in Cell Biology, is awarded on a three year cycle to a new student by the Graduate School. The Department can also nominate exceptional students for funding under the University Scholar program, which offers 3 year fellowships. Teaching and Research assistantships provide a stipend and remission of University tuition. Stipends are also available for students engaged in research projects during the summer.
