| First Year Programs at the University of Connecticut was established as a Department in 1999. Since then, we have offered a comprehensive support system including First Year Experience classes, Peer Education programs, and UConn Connects academic intervention. Each year, we adapt our programs to support and meet the need of our ever- changing First Year students. Our goal is to track these changes and the characteristics of the student population. We are placing more emphasis on gathering this critical information and assessing what programs work well with our first-year students and which programs need improvement. With such assessment and evaluation, we are able to determine how to go about improving those programs and creating new ones to better suit the needs of our first year students. First Year Programs is committed to sharing our research and assessment with programs and schools similar to the University of Connecticut in order to work collaboratively to find ways to support First Year students more successfully.
