Importing Netscape address book into Outlook
This process entails converting the Netscape address book into Outlook Express then into Outlook. This process is not 100% guaranteed.
- Note: Distribution lists (groups of email addresses) do not import properly into Outlook. After the import, you will need to re-add e-mail addresses to your distribution lists.
- In Netscape Communicator, on the Communicator menu, click Address Book.
- In Address Book, click File and then Export .
- A new window titled Export As will open. In the Save as type box: make sure the type LDIF(*.ldif) is selected.
- Save the file to your local hard drive. In this example, it was saved to the C: drive on a PC.
- Click the Save button and then close Netscape Messenger and Communicator.
- Open Outlook Express.
- In Outlook Express, on the File menu, click Import,
and then click Other Address Book.
- In the Address Book Import Tool box, click LDIF - LDAP Data Interchange Format, then click Import.
- A new window titled Open will appear. Locate the file you saved on your local hard drive. Once you locate the file, click on Open.
- Click OK when you receive the Address Book import process has completed prompt.
- Click Close on the window titled Address Book Import Tool.
- In Outlook, on the File menu, click Import and
Export.
- In the Import and Export Wizard, click Import Internet Mail and Addresses, and then click Next.
- In Select the Internet Mail application to import from, in
this case click on Outlook Express 4.x, 5. Verify that Import
Addresses is selected.
Because Outlook Express does not import Netscape Messenger rules, this option can be ignored for the Outlook conversion. Now click Next.
- In Select a destination for Imported Addresses, click Outlook
Contacts Folder, and then click Finish.
The Import Summary box will appear showing you how many addresses were imported.
