Shared Mailbox Configuration: Mail

Shared Mailbox: Entourage | Shared Mailbox: Mail

Note: all other Mac email clients follow the same basic model: configure as IMAP type account, enter uconn/YourNetID/ResourceID within the Account/User ID field.

From within Apple Mail go to the Mail tab and choose Preferences from the drop down menu.

From the Accounts window that appears, click the "+" icon in the lower-left corner of the window.

From the Add Account dialogue that appears, enter the following information:

Full Name

Your full name (or name you would like sent with email sent from this account)

Email Address Email to shared mailbox
(note this will be a unique address for this account, ie: YourResource@uconn.edu)
Password Your own NetID password

Note: You may be prompted that the attempt to access the Auto Discover server failed, in this case, an addition field for your username will appear. Enter the information below to configure:

User name

uconn/YourNetID/YourResourceAccountID (ex: uconn/abc1234/resource1234)

From the Incoming Mail Server dialogue, enter the following information:

Account Type

IMAP

Description Resource ID (ex: Resource1234)
Incoming Mail Server exchange.uconn.edu
User Name uconn/YourNetIDHere/resource1234
Password Your own NetID password

From the Outgoing Mail Server dialogue, enter the following information:

Description

UConn

Outgoing Mail Server smtp.uconn.edu
Use Authentication unchecked

From the Outgoing Mail Security dialogue, enter the following information:

Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)

unchecked

As a final step, you should see a confirmation dialogue listing your current account configuration, click next/done to continue. On completion of account configuration, you should see a list of the accounts configured, and the new, shared mailbox configuration list in the left-hand column.

You can also switch to the Mailbox Behaviors tab of the account to tweak where draft, sent, junk, and deleted email messages are stored (lock versus on the server).

Congratulations, you have successfully configured Apple Mail for a shared resource account.
