Messages to Students re: SA System v9.0 Upgrade
To Undergraduate & Graduate Students: PeopleSoft is Changing, September 25, 2008
Jeff von Munkwitz-Smith, University Registrar
At 5 PM on Friday, October 3, an upgrade of the PeopleSoft Student Administration System will begin. The new version of the system is scheduled to be available on Monday, October 13. During the upgrade the old version of the system will be available to administrative users in view-only mode. Access for students and faculty will be limited while the upgrade is in progress. Access to the Class Schedule will be through https://admin.studentadmin.uconn.edu/SAPR/BeforeClassSchedSnapshot.html
The new version of the software will be much easier for students to use. The “Student Center” displays your class schedule, information on holds and service indicators, registration appointments, financial aid, fee bill, and more. From the Student Center you can access Class Search and registration. You can access your advising report, unofficial transcript, and other academic information. One more navigation improvement: the “Back” button now works.
To navigate to the Student Center once you log in to the system, click on the “Self Service” link, then click on “Student Center”.
Some of the new features of the system are related to registration. One is the “Enrollment Shopping Cart”. This feature allows you to pre-select courses for registration prior to your registration appointment and then register for them at your appointment time. (A caution: putting courses in your Shopping Cart does not save you seats in the courses or enroll you in them; you will need to complete the enrollment process.) Another feature is “Academic Requirements”, which displays your progress towards your degree. You can search for classes and place classes in your Shopping Cart from the Academic Requirements display.
It isn’t my intention here to give you detailed instructions on how to use the system. Those will be available through the “Student Help” link once you log in.
To School of Law Students: PeopleSoft Student Administration System Upgrade, September 25, 2008
Lisa Darr Rodino, Registrar, School of Law
Please be advised that on Friday, October 3rd at 5:00pm, the PeopleSoft Student Administration System will be brought down to undergo a major upgrade. The system is expected to be back up, in its new form, on Monday, October 13th. During this down time only administrative offices will have access to the system, and our access will be "view-only" - no changes can be made during this week.
When the system is back up, it will look very different (though it will function much the same way). I imagine that for many of you an initial reaction may be: "oh no! i just figured out how to navigate the old system - don't change now, especially with course registration for Spring 2009 looming at the end of the month". To that let me say... I understand your concern and I hope I alleviate some of the apprehension by saying:
- there will be an on-line help feature and tutorial
- though the system looks different (the navigation is different), the language used is much more intuitive and user-friendly
- I will give you a preview of the system before registration and walk you through how to select courses.
These preview session will be held on Tuesday, October 21st (at 12:30pm and 6:00pm) in Starr Hall, Room 108 - the Koskoff Koskoff & Bieder Trial Courtroom, in advance of course selection which begins on Monday, October 27th.
As always, I welcome your comments, criticisms and questions.
