Cognitive Science Academics
The Cognitive Science Program offers
an undergraduate major,
an undergraduate minor, and
a graduate certificate (beginning in 2011-12).
The undergraduate major in cognitive science is
intended to prepare students for graduate training in cognitive science and related
disciplines or to work in the information sciences. 39 credits at the
2000-level or above are required, including courses from four different academic
departments. Although 1000-level courses do not count toward the major, several
provide excellent preparation, including CSE 1102, Ling 1010, Phil 1101, or Psych 1100.
The
undergraduate minor in cognitive science is
perfect for students majoring in one of the affiliated disciplines who wish to broaden
their experience with coursework in other cognitive science fields.
15 credits at the 2000-level or above are required, with no more than
6 credits coming from coursework in any one department.
The
graduate certificate provides
an advanced course of study in cognitive science. The certificate program is intended for students
already enrolled in a graduate degree program at the University of Connecticut.
Students interested in internships in cognitive science and related fields should visit the
Career Services internship
clearinghouse.
