Minors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Minors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
The following text is taken from Policy on Minors for the College and from Minors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Committee on Curricula and Courses, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, April 1997.
- Except where the CLAS rules are more stringent, the University's rules for Minors will apply to all Minors in the College; the governing University document is indicated in the first paragraph of the appended policy statement.
- A Minor must consist of at least 15 credits of course work at the 200's level or higher.
- Students may not major and minor in the same discipline. However, there is no general restriction on counting the same course towards both a major (including relateds) and a different Minor.
- A student may double-count the same course towards both her major and a Minor. (This will happen rarely, mainly where a major requires courses outside the main department.)
- A proposal for a Minor in CLAS should clearly indicate
- (a) the core concepts and questions considered integral to the discipline;
- (b) the courses that students may choose among for the Minor; and
- (c) how those courses cover the core material.
