| The University of Connecticut, Department of Nutritional Sciences, the Cooperative Extension System, and the University of Rhode Island, Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences in collaboration with the State of Connecticut, Department of Social Services are working together to improve nutrition and quality of life for Senior Citizens living in the eastern Connecticut region and throughout Rhode Island. The project, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Stamp Program, has already reached thousands of community-dwelling older adults, providing them with accurate nutrition information through various free services. These include group nutrition education workshops, healthy cooking classes, the distribution of nutrition pamphlets, and nutrition education through cable television productions airing in the Groton/New London area.
