Agribusiness Management

The Agribusiness Management Program emphasizes the application of economics to management, marketing, and finance issues in the business and government sectors. This program option emphasizes analytical and decision-making skills and provides graduates with many career alternatives.

Program Advantages
In addition to excellent career opportunities and employment, the Agribusiness Management Program offers students high quality instruction through small class settings and personalized advising. Students receive individual attention from faculty while having access to the resources of a major university. Internship course credits with private and public employers is an important feature of the program. Finally, the faculty in Agricultural and Resource Economics has a long-standing tradition of excellence in teaching and research.

Course Requirements
The Agribusiness Management Program offers students both flexibility and a well-defined curriculum. After taking a common core of freshman and sophomore courses, students are offered a variety of agribusiness courses at the junior and senior levels. Of the 36 credits required from 200 level courses for Agribusiness Management students, at least 15 credits must be taken from the following Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) courses:

  • Business Management
  • Business Finance in Food and Resource Industries
  • Organization and Strategies in Food Industries
  • Food Trends and the Changing Consumer
  • Marketing and Price Analysis
  • Principles of Agribusiness
  • Food and Agricultural Policy
  • International Commodity Trade

And 9 credits must be taken from the following non ARE courses:

  • Principles of Managerial Accounting
  • Business Law
  • Intermediate Microeconomics
  • Money and Banking
  • Business Finance
  • Economic Geography
  • Managerial and Interpersonal Behavior
  • Managerial Behavior in Cross-Cultural Settings
  • Introduction to Marketing Management

Electives, internship course credits and independent studies can be used to fulfill the remaining program requirements.


Scholarships
A number of scholarships from the departmental Russell Palen Fund are available for incoming freshmen and transfer students. These awards are based on academic merit. Students may also apply for scholarships awarded by the College and University.
