The Positions: The College of
Agriculture invites applications for two tenure-track academic
year positions in Agribusiness with summer research opportunities
available. The College of Agriculture is committed to hiring

Responsibilities for the Assistant Professor Position:
Teaching responsibilities will include, but are not limited

Long Island Sound Study (LISS)

Description |
The Long Island Sound Study (LISS)
announces its intent to award partial (half-time) fellowships
to two graduate students to participate in and support the work
of the LISS Science and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC).
The purpose of the fellowships is to provide experience on Long
Island Sound issues and programs to students interested in environmental
management or policy careers.
Successful applicants will be masters or doctoral students
whose research focuses on a topic relevant to understanding
and managing Long Island Sound and who have a strong interest
in coastal environmental management. The fellowships will be
administered by Connecticut Sea Grant and New York Sea Grant,
in cooperation with the US Environmental Protection Agency -
Long Island Sound Office (EPA-LISO). The period of the fellowships
will run concurrent with the 2008-2009 academic year of the
home university, plus summer. In addition to continuing his
or her research in support of thesis or dissertation requirements,
the LISS Fellows will work closely with the STAC co-chairs,
providing an average of 10 hours per week of administrative
and technical support to the STAC during the academic year and
20 hours per week during the summer. In 2008, the LISS will
award half-time fellowships to two graduate students. One applicant
will be selected from a Connecticut institution and one from
a New York institution.

The Borlaug Leadership Enhancement in Agriculture Program (LEAP)

Description |
The Borlaug LEAP is a fellowship
program, funded by the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID), to enhance the quality of thesis research
of graduate students from developing countries who show strong
promise as leaders in the field of agriculture and related disciplines
as defined by Title XII. LEAP is part of the overall Borlaug
International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellows Program
sponsored by the USDA.
The LEAP program will support engaging a mentor at a Consultative
Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) system
center to support and enhance the thesis research and mentoring
experience. Awards will be made on a competitive basis to students
who show strong scientific and leadership potential, have a
well coordinated proposal between their home university, a US
university mentor, and the CGIAR mentor, and whose research
is related to a strong research and support project within the
host country. Emphasis will be placed on work that has relevance
to the national development of the student's home country. Applications
are welcome throughout the year. However, reviews are conducted
twice a year and the administrative deadline for the next review
is October 31, 2008.
Currently there are two Request for Applications (RFA). For
the ongoing RFA, the focus region is sub-Saharan Africa. For
this RFA, applicants must be citizens of USAID-assisted countries
in sub-Saharan Africa.
The limited release RFA, is focused on Collaborative Research
Support Programs (CRSPs). For this special RFA, applicants are
welcome from any USAID-assisted country in all regions of the
world but students must be affiliated with a CRSP to apply.

Research and Legislative Responsibilities:
• Conduct research as assigned by Vice President of Communications

Competitiveness. This faculty member will be designated as the
holder of the Agricultural Competitiveness Endowed Chair, and
is also anticipated to serve as the Director of the Cotton Economics
Research Institute and leader of the cotton policy analysis
group housed in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics.
Teaching responsibilities will consist of teaching two to three
courses per year at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
The faculty member is also expected to serve as an advisor and
research supervisor for M.S. and Ph.D. students. The selected
individual is expected to develop a nationally recognized research
program addressing issues leading to the enhancement of Agricultural
Competitiveness, and be willing to interface with the varied
stakeholders who established this endowment. Excellence in teaching,
the development of a successful research program including externally
funded projects, effective service, and publication in refereed

This position is for 12 months, with possibility of extension
depending on funding and suitability. It will involve implementing
the PRI in emerging markets and developing countries in Africa,
Asia-Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, and
the Middle East.
The role will involve five main activities:
- Promoting the PRI and building capacity among emerging market
investors
- Developing and disseminating environmental, social and
governance (ESG) research, analysis and benchmarking
- Coordinating collaborative investor engagement on ESG issues
to drive responsible business practice in emerging markets
and developing countries
- Identifying and addressing systemic constraints to responsible
investment
- Assisting with various administrative aspects of the PRI,
such as supporting current signatories in implementation,
coordinating ongoing signatory recruitment, fundraising and
other administrative tasks as required by the PRI and UNEP
FI teams.
The candidate should have an understanding of responsible
